I saw the blog that said most of the EN admins were leaving to another host. I'm sorry to hear it's come to that - I have read and understand some of the frustrations this wikia expressed to us via our Special:Contact tool in recent weeks - but I do genuinely want to wish you the best. I run some MediaWiki installations both on and off Wikia, so I certainly have some respect for people who go this avenue even if it's something I wish it didn't come to.
I do appreciate the tone in the blog post that admins (and other departing contributors) should simply leave this wikia for the other and not try to harm this wikia or otherwise unduly influence it. I do need to stress that that's really important from Wikia's perspective - we truly believe that the community members should freely decide if they are going to stay or go as individuals and we want to make sure that those who stay are allowed to run the wikia as they would any other community here.
I would submit that if you are truly committed to going on to the other community, that you resign your admin position here to avoid conflict of interest and help Wikia understand who wants to stay behind and help run this community. I'm not saying this is mandatory, but I think it would go a long way to helping a peaceful transition for both sides. I will be looking for new admins in a few weeks once people have thought it over.
Hi DaNASCAT, thanks for your understanding. I've done my research before our departure and I understand Wikia's desires and policies about such an event. Though we had our grievances, I appreciate Wikia having hosted us all this time (especially after a couple weeks of fun with MediaWiki on my own!). I have no problem with taking off my admin hat here, we are leaving this wikia in the hands of you and any new future admins.
So I'm usually over at PF, and I've spent 95% of my time there over the past year helping new players. For a long time, I have been hearing all sorts of weird stuff, and finally, someone sent me a link, and I realized the problem: A lot of people looking for help end up on your New Player Guide, which, to be frank, is well-meaning, but causing a ton of problems for new players, many of whom end up on PF asking the very questions your guide is supposed to answer.
I mean, seriously, you try explaining to people why they need to reroll at rank 100 because their D.Meta or G.ZGL team is not viable without Hanzo or Gryps/Marine Riders, respectively. (That is just one thing I noted about your tier list.)
That being said, the structure is a bit weird and does not provide much in the way of culture/perception-building or long-term direction.
So, seriously, can I just help you re-write your guide?
We'd like to create some custom beginner's guide videos for you based on content that exists on your wikia- I think they would be valuable to your community and would perform well. We did this recently for the Clash of Clans community - for reference, you can view the videos in the 'Must Watch' module on this page-- http://clashofclans.wikia.com/wiki/Mortar
I was hoping you could let the other admins know and that you all could decide the topics for the videos... Let me know your thoughts please. Thanks!
Um... thanks very much. We don't have much thoughts on it, since I think none of us are particularly video-oriented, nor do we have much time to spare lately. I guess one good topic would be more-advanced video guides about the material in Making Combos - I know that there are existing videos on YouTube but I've not looked into them.
Are these videos going to be created by folks from the Wikia team?
Hey there, thanks for the reply. I understand that you guys aren't very video-centrib, but am hoping they will be helpful to people who do like to watch guide videos.... Yes, these be will done by the Wikia team. The Making Combos page is a great idea, we'll use that. So the video topics I am envisioning are:
I think those sound like appropriate topics for videos.
For Feeding Monsters, I would say you should skip the specific monsters in the "simple feeding" bit, since it's not super intuitive and also not an exact science. Pengdras are straightforward, but should probably skip the "fodder combo" table since it's kind of unnecessary; the main point is to get a total of 2556 XP, and these days people get Pengdras from all sorts of places and levels so the fodder necessary to reach that number varies. Everything else should be fine.
When i browse the wiki on the phone, i keep having to switch to full view every time i go to a page because the pages are malformed. is there a way to force phone view to be full view, or a way to help fix the phone view?
Hi! I was just curious why you deleted my Ruins of the Star Vault sample team? It's was basically just a Da Qiao & Xiao Qiao spike team with Echidna for safety. Yeah, that's pretty basic, but I couldn't 0-stone the dungeon until I tried that (the last level hits too hard and has too much health for anything but a 16x+ spike team.) We see plenty of Kirin/Kirin 25x spike teams and those don't get deleted: They're basic to the point of being "usless" too, but they work and they give newer players a hint of what to do. Add to the fact that there are NO sample teams, it's nice to have one example. (I've honestly lost Ruins of the Star Vault 3-4 times and was kinda scratching my head as to how to beat it: it seems deceptively easy.) Thanks!
Honestly, the dungeon is relatively basic, with no fancy enemy skills, and can be beaten with any solid, non-specific team (for which "Spike leaders + Echidna" is about as generic as they come). The only requirement is "Look at the stats of the bosses, and make sure you can do enough damage or survive them." With a strategy as broad as that, I'd rather just see it written as a tip at the top of the dungeon page because... there's nothing else to note, really. (Feel free to make that edit, btw.)
And as it says in the Sample Team Guidelines, if you see any sample teams elsewhere that you feel are extraneous or not specific enough, feel free to point them out for review. We admins certainly don't take the time to scrutinize every existing team.
I tried to port the new sample team template to Zeus Descended!/Sample Teams for the sample teams there with notes, but I can't get any of the notes to show like you did with Zeus_Vulcan_Descended!/Sample_Teams. My attempt was intentionally not saved but looks like I did everything right. Can you help or find someone or better yet grab a zh guy to help? Thanks a lot!
I am trying to find higher resolution images of some of the monsters than the ones that are posted on the wiki. Do you know if there is a way? I'm trying to get something that is computer wallpaper material but have had no luck...Thanks for any insight!
Hm, well, the full portraits we have on this wiki are the highest in-game resolution monster pics you can get. I'd suggest looking through the backlogs of official PR sources like the Facebook page or the official Twitter - they've posted a number of high-res concept arts of newly-announced monsters. Of course, you're out of luck if they've never posted what you're looking for.
If you really need something specific, maybe try asking GungHo reps on FB nicely :)
